British Airways has announced that it will cancel all its flights from Southampton Airport next summer, ending its seasonal operations from the airport.
Through its subsidiary BA City Flyer, the airline has been operating weekend flights to popular destinations including Dublin, Malaga, Majorca, Bergerac, and Faro during the summer months.
The airline did not provide a specific reason for the decision to scrap these routes. In a statement, British Airways said, “We are suspending our summer 2025 operations from Southampton Airport and contacting any affected customers with options including rebooking on an alternative flight with us or another airline or a full refund.”
Southampton Airport expressed disappointment over the airline’s decision. A spokesperson stated, “It is disappointing when any route is removed,” but added that the airport remains “in constant dialogue with airlines regarding the introduction of new services, including backfilling the routes withdrawn by British Airways.”
The airport, which serves a small area of 2 square miles with a population of 28,000 residents, had recently unveiled an extended runway, which it said was crucial for handling a wider variety of aircraft. The expansion was part of the airport’s ongoing efforts to improve its services and attract more flights.
Earlier this year, luggage storage company Bounce ranked Southampton Airport’s terminal the second-best in the UK. The ranking is based on data from Which? Which evaluated factors including queues at check-in, bag drop, security, passport control, the efficiency of baggage reclaim, available seating, staff numbers, the range of shops and their prices, and the number of toilets available.
The cancellation of BA’s summer flights represents a significant change for travellers who have relied on these services during peak travel months. The airport remains hopeful that it can replace the lost routes and continue to offer a diverse range of destinations in the future.
