British Airways Cabin Crew Fired Over Racist TikTok Video Mocking Asian Passengers
Two members of British Airways cabin crew have lost their jobs after facing backlash for sharing a racially insensitive video on TikTok.
Holly Walton and Lauren Bray faced criticism for their actions in which they mocked Asian passengers by adopting a caricatured Chinese accent and making offensive gestures.
In the video, Walton imitated a Chinese accent, saying, ‘Give me wine,’ and mockingly pulled her eyelids. Bray, who filmed the clip, has since deactivated her Instagram account.
The incident took place during a break between flights at the Trade Winds Hotel in Antigua. The video was captioned ‘2 weeks in a row with this d***head’.
Colleagues expressed outrage, particularly noting that the pair seemed to be making fun of a Chinese family on a specific flight from London Gatwick (BA2157) who may not have been fluent in English. One Asian colleague described feeling deeply affected by the clip, which had garnered over a million views.
The behaviour was condemned by many, with one individual noting that the women appeared to be intentionally mocking the family, sending a highly negative message.
Consequently, Walton was called back from a trip to Cancun, Mexico, for a meeting with BA management at the airline’s headquarters, where both she and Bray were terminated from their positions. Bray reportedly left the meeting in tears.
ABA crew members expressed shock and disappointment, stating that such racist attitudes, especially when recorded and shared publicly, are reprehensible and reflect poorly on the airline.
A spokesperson for British Airways emphasized the company’s stance against racism, stating that all forms of discrimination are unacceptable and confirming that both individuals are no longer employed by the airline.
