The two bodies discovered inside the wreckage of the British-flagged Bayesian superyacht have been identified as British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch and his teenage daughter, Hannah, according to reports.
Lynch, 59, and 18-year-old Hannah were found in one of the ship’s cabins and were brought to shore on Wednesday. The Telegraph and The Independent reported their identification, while search teams recovered two additional bodies. These two bodies remain unidentified.
Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, was among the survivors, having managed to escape the sinking vessel before it capsized. The superyacht, which was carrying 22 people, overturned during a sudden tornado early Monday morning off the coast of Porticello.
The search continues for several missing individuals, including Morgan Stanley chairman Jonathan Bloomer, his wife Judy Bloomer, New York City lawyer Christopher Morvillo, and Neda Morvillo. Fifteen people survived the incident, while the body of onboard cook Recaldo Thomas was found near the wreck hours after the sinking.
As the latest findings were reported, search boats and diving teams were seen departing from Porticello in the afternoon. Divers face a challenging task due to the vessel’s depth, which lies sideways, about 50 meters underwater, obstructed by debris and furniture. They have limited time underwater, with roughly 10 minutes of air to conduct their search before returning to the surface.
Italian fire officials described the search as “long and complex,” emphasizing the difficulties of the operation. The effort to locate the remaining missing passengers continues.
