US President Joe Biden’s proclamation of March 31st as Transgender Day of Visibility, coinciding with Easter Sunday this year, has sparked criticism from Donald Trump’s campaign and religious conservatives.

The proclamation, issued by the Democratic president, urges all Americans to support transgender individuals and work towards ending discrimination based on gender identity.

However, the decision to designate March 31st as Transgender Day of Visibility, falling on Easter, a significant Christian holiday, has drawn backlash.

Trump’s campaign accused Biden of insensitivity to religion, mainly targeting the millions of Catholics and Christians who observe Easter as the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Karoline Leavitt, the Trump campaign’s press secretary, demanded an apology from Biden’s administration for what she labelled as an assault on the Christian faith.

House Speaker Mike Johnson condemned the decision on social media, accusing the Biden White House of betraying the central importance of Easter.

In response, White House spokesperson Andrew Bates defended Biden, stating that the criticism from Republicans aimed to divide the country with hateful rhetoric.

Bates emphasized Biden’s commitment to bringing people together and respecting the dignity and freedoms of every American, regardless of religious beliefs.

Biden, a devout Catholic, integrates his faith into his personal and political life, regularly attending Mass and considering his Catholic upbringing integral to his morality.

Despite Biden’s religious beliefs, his support for gay marriage and abortion rights has led to tension with conservative Christians.

In 2021, Biden’s meeting with Pope Francis garnered attention, with the pontiff reportedly affirming Biden’s Catholicism despite his political positions.

Biden maintains that he will not exploit his faith for political gain, emphasizing his dedication to unity and inclusivity among all Americans.
