Biden’s “Garbage” Remark Leads to Cancelled Campaign Calls Amid Backlash

Multiple campaign calls with President Biden scheduled for Thursday have been cancelled, according to Fox News. The White House is dealing with the repercussions of his recent comments regarding supporters of former President Trump.

Organisations expecting Biden’s participation did not provide immediate updates on whether the Zoom calls occurred without him.

These calls were not officially affiliated with the Harris-Walz campaign. Currently, Biden has no official campaign events lined up ahead of the upcoming election, as he continues to face criticism for calling Trump supporters “garbage” during a virtual meeting with Voto Latino, which was not directly connected to his campaign efforts.

The controversy arose from Biden’s remarks during the call, where he was asked about a rally held by Trump at Madison Square Garden. During this rally, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe made a joke that referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage.”

In response, Biden stated, “Donald Trump has no character. He doesn’t give a damn about the Latino community. He’s a failed businessman. He only cares about his billionaire friends and accumulating wealth for those at the top.”

He went on to say, “And just the other day, a speaker at his rally called Puerto Rico a ‘floating island of garbage.’ Well, let me tell you something…in my home state of Delaware, they’re good, decent, honourable people. The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters – his demonisation of Latinos is excessive, and it’s un-American. It’s contrary to everything we’ve done and been.”

On Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre addressed the situation, explaining that Biden’s comments were aimed explicitly at Hinchcliffe’s joke. She clarified, “He does not view Trump supporters or anybody who supports Trump as garbage. That is not what he views.”

Fox News has contacted the White House for further comment on the matter.
