President Joe Biden encountered an unusual moment during a star-studded campaign fundraiser in Los Angeles on Saturday night, where he appeared to freeze up and needed former President Obama’s assistance to leave the stage.
The incident unfolded after Biden and Obama participated in a 45-minute interview with late-night host Jimmy Kimmel at the Peacock Theater.

As the event concluded and the audience began applauding, Biden’s gaze became fixed on the crowd for 10 seconds. Then, Obama stepped in, gently taking Biden’s wrist and guiding him offstage. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also intervened, ensuring Biden returned for a group photo with other world leaders.
The fundraiser proved highly successful for the Biden campaign, raising over $30 million. The event drew Hollywood luminaries such as George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and Barbra Streisand.
However, it was also met with disruption as hundreds of anti-Israel protesters gathered outside, attempting to obstruct entry to the gala. Tickets for the event ranged from $250 to $500,000.
Outside the theatre, dozens of police officers in riot gear formed a barrier to prevent the protesters from advancing further. The demonstrators, chanting slogans critical of Biden and waving Palestinian flags, voiced their grievances, including accusations of dishonesty and demands for a ceasefire.
Despite the tense atmosphere, the LAPD reported no arrests during the protest. The $30 million raised at the fundraiser marked a record for a single night in Democratic fundraising history, underscoring the party’s efforts to counter the financial momentum of former President Donald Trump.
Trump had raised over $50 million at an April fundraiser in Florida and continued to attract substantial donations following his recent legal issues. At the Los Angeles event, Biden, Obama, and First Lady Jill Biden engaged the audience with familiar talking points, addressing topics from the Capitol riot on January 6 to concerns about the ideological direction of the Supreme Court.
Recent polling data has shown troubling signs for the Biden administration, indicating lagging support in critical states like Arizona, Nevada, and Florida. A notable survey from Marist College suggested that Trump had even gained ground in Pennsylvania, traditionally seen as a stronghold for Biden.
The fundraising success in Los Angeles is pivotal for Biden’s re-election campaign, aiming to bolster support and financial backing amid challenges from political rivals and internal policy concerns.
