President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump have secured their parties’ nominations, setting up a highly anticipated rematch in the upcoming presidential election.

The Associated Press declared Joe Biden the presumptive Democratic nominee after his projected victory in Georgia. He comfortably surpassed the delegate threshold of 1,968, solidifying his position after his dominance in last week’s Super Tuesday and previous Democratic primaries.

In the same way, Donald Trump was declared the Republican presumptive nominee after winning the GOP contests in Georgia, Mississippi, and Washington State. Nikki Haley, former UN ambassador, ended her White House campaign after Trump’s resounding victory on Super Tuesday, where he won 14 out of 15 state contests.

Biden and Trump are set to be officially named their respective party’s nominees later this summer at the Democratic and Republican conventions, marking the first presidential rematch in nearly 70 years since Republican President Dwight Eisenhower faced Adlai Stevenson in 1956.

Biden expressed gratitude for the broad coalition of voters who have once again placed their faith in him to lead the Democratic Party and the nation, emphasizing the urgent need to address the threats posed by Trump.

Meanwhile, Trump, in a social media video, asserted his focus on national priorities, including economic prosperity and border security, signaling a vigorous campaign ahead.

However, recent polls indicate that voters are less enthusiastic about a presidential race featuring two unpopular candidates. Biden, at 81, is already the oldest president in US history, a fact that concerns about six in ten voters. On the other hand, Trump, aged 77, faces similar apprehensions, particularly due to being the first US president in history to face criminal charges, with 91 felony counts across four indictments.
