Beyoncé fans have expressed their disappointment and confusion over the new waxwork of the pop star at Madame Tussauds in Blackpool. The figure, unveiled on February 8, 2024, has a noticeably wide neck that does not match the singer’s appearance.
The waxwork is dressed in a glittery gold jumpsuit and a matching hat inspired by Beyoncé’s performance at the 2018 Coachella festival. However, many people on social media pointed out that the figure looked more like actress Leah Remini than the Lemonade singer.
“They can never get Beyoncé’s wax figure right,” one user commented on X. “What’s with wax figure museums and messing up Beyoncé’s face every single time?” another user asked. “This is what happens when you order your Beyoncé wax figures from Temu,” a third user joked, referring to the online Chinese marketplace.
This is not the first time that Madame Tussauds has faced criticism for its waxworks of Beyoncé. In 2017, the museum in New York City unveiled a model of the singer that was widely slammed for having a lighter skin tone and looking more like Julia Stiles. In 2019, the museum in Las Vegas received praise for its figure of Beyoncé in her Homecoming outfit, which was more accurate and realistic.
Madame Tussauds Blackpool has not responded to the backlash over its latest waxwork of Beyoncé. The figure will be available for visitors to see and take pictures with from Saturday, February 11, 2024. The museum also features waxworks of celebrities such as Lewis Capaldi, Angelina Jolie, and King Charles.
