Barcelona are reportedly exploring a move for Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford during the upcoming summer transfer window, as part of a strategy that could involve selling Raphinha to fund the deal.
Rashford, who was loaned to Aston Villa in January following a difficult period under new Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, has managed to revive his form at Villa Park.
The 27-year-old has impressed by overtaking Ollie Watkins in the starting line-up, playing a key role in the club’s progression to the Champions League quarter-finals and a deep run in the FA Cup.
However, Rashford’s momentum may have been halted by a hamstring injury, casting doubt over his availability for the remainder of the Premier League season. There is still hope he might return before the campaign concludes.
According to a report from Sky Sports Switzerland, Barcelona have been long-time admirers of Rashford and are now engaged in preliminary negotiations for a possible transfer.
The report suggests the player’s agent, Pini Zahavi, is currently working with Barcelona president Joan Laporta to help pave the way for a summer move.
It is claimed that personal terms are already being discussed, and Rashford has shown interest in making the switch to the Spanish giants. Meanwhile, Aston Villa reportedly have no plans to retain him beyond the current season.
Manchester United are believed to have placed a price tag of around €35 million (£29.6 million) on Rashford.
This valuation presents a challenge for Barcelona, which is not currently in a position to match that figure outright. Nevertheless, the club is actively working on offloading several attacking players to raise funds, with Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski among those who could be allowed to leave.
Selling Raphinha, who has been one of Barcelona’s standout performers, might raise eyebrows among fans.
Replacing him with Rashford, who has struggled with form and injuries in recent years, may appear risky. But such bold and sometimes puzzling decisions have become characteristic of Barcelona’s transfer dealings in recent seasons.
While Rashford’s fluctuating performances and fitness issues have drawn criticism in the past, his resurgence at Villa appears to have rekindled interest from elite European clubs.
The summer window could therefore present a pivotal moment for both Rashford’s career and Barcelona’s squad rebuild.
