Barack and Michelle Obama Endorse Kamala Harris at DNC, Criticize Trump and Urge Voter Action
Barack and Michelle Obama have publicly endorsed Kamala Harris at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, using the platform to criticize her opponent, Donald Trump.
In her address, former First Lady Michelle Obama urged Americans to vote and defend their “basic freedoms,” echoing advice from Harris’ mother: “Don’t just sit around and complain. Do something!”
Former President Barack Obama praised Joe Biden for his leadership, calling him “a president who defended democracy at a moment of great danger.” He also took direct aim at Trump, referring to him as a “78-year-old billionaire who hasn’t stopped whining about his problems” and criticizing his “constant stream of gripes and grievances.” Obama also expressed pride in Biden, calling him his president and friend.
Michelle Obama continued the critique, noting that Trump’s “limited and narrow view of the world” made him feel threatened by successful Black individuals like herself and her husband. She added, “Who will tell him that the job he’s seeking might be one of those ‘black jobs’?”
The evening featured other notable appearances, including former Trump press secretary Stephanie Grisham, now a critic of the former president. Grisham accused Trump of lacking empathy, morals, and fidelity to the truth.
Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff also spoke, sharing personal anecdotes about his relationship with Harris, highlighting her empathy as her strength. Celebrities like director Spike Lee and actors Sean Astin, Eva Longoria, and Wendell Pierce were also at the convention.
Barack Obama concluded his remarks by emphasizing the race’s closeness and urging voters to consider “who will fight for them” as they head to the polls.
