Australian Woman Allegedly Gang-Raped in Paris Days Before Olympics Opening Ceremony
An Australian woman, 25, visiting Paris was reportedly gang-raped by five men just days before the Olympics opening ceremony.
The alleged assault occurred near the
Moulin Rouge cabaret on Saturday. The woman, who had been attending the Fête de la Musique music festival, sought help at the Dounia kebab shop, disoriented and with her dress inside out.
CCTV footage from the kebab shop shows the woman, who remains anonymous, being approached by another woman offering water while staff comfort her.
A blurred man is seen entering the shop, and the alleged victim identifies him. The man fled after being confronted and punched by a diner.
The woman reported to police that the attackers were “young men of African appearance,” though she could not provide further details.
She was taken to Bichat Hospital after the restaurant owners called for assistance. The alleged attack occurred just a day before her scheduled departure back home.
The Prosecutor’s Office has assigned the investigation to the second judicial police district, with the Paris Police Union pledging to expedite the identification and apprehension of the suspects.
This incident comes as Paris intensifies security measures in preparation for the Olympics, with armed guards, 45,000 police officers from 43 countries, and 18,000 soldiers deployed to ensure the safety of visitors and residents.
Authorities aim to prevent fears among tourists as the city braces for the influx of spectators and participants.
