ANTHONY JOSHUA
Anthony Joshua, the former heavyweight champion, recently moved out of his mother’s north London flat into a new mansion.

With nearly £100 million in the bank, the 2012 Olympic champion explained his decision on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, saying, “I didn’t want to leave my mom alone. I wanted to ensure that her foundations were strong—the nest was strong—so that when I leave, mom’s good. For me, that’s freedom. Knowing no matter where I am, mom’s happy and cared for.”

Joshua, a British-Nigerian fighter, is set to face fellow Brit Daniel Dubois on September 21 at Wembley Stadium in London for the IBF belt.

This follows the confirmation that current titleholder Oleksandr Usyk would vacate the world title, having recently defeated Tyson Fury to become the first heavyweight to hold the IBF, WBO, WBA, and WBC belts. However, Usyk was required by the IBF to face its mandatory challenger, Dubois, to retain the IBF title.

Dubois, who became interim IBF champion by defeating Filip Hrgovic earlier in June, expressed his determination to dethrone the two-time world champion, Joshua, stating, “That’s just what I’m aiming for—to be the best. To fight the best and beat the best. Joshua has been the king for a long time.

On the night, I need to become the king slayer. That’s my goal, and that’s the mission I have. I’m ready to let my fists do the talking. A hundred per cent ready to go, train like a beast. So bring it on.”

Joshua, aged 34, faced defeats from Usyk in 2021 and 2022, while Usyk knocked out Dubois last year.

Despite this, Joshua enjoys a four-fight winning streak, with three stoppages in his previous three outings. The upcoming match against Dubois at Wembley will mark his fourth appearance at the stadium, whereas Dubois will step out as a leading event for the first time.

Reflecting on Dubois’s recent victory against Hrgovic, Joshua commented, “Congratulations to Daniel for winning his last fight; I watched it live.

It was a good fight between the two of them. I also picked Dubois to win; I watched boxing closely and liked him before. He came through, and we are here. I’ve been having Dubois on my mind for a while. He’ll be on my mind for 12 weeks until my hand is raised.”
