Television star Amanda Holden reportedly has a unique in-flight request each time she flies with budget airline Ryanair, according to her close friend and co-star, comedian Alan Carr.
The two, who recently worked together on their BBC show ‘Amanda & Alan’s Italian Job,’ have spent significant time travelling to Italy for filming. Soon, they’ll continue their adventures in Spain with a new series titled ‘Amanda & Alan’s Spanish Job’.
While on board Ryanair flights to Italy, Holden enjoys a glass of rosé but prefers it with ice—something not typically available on budget flights. Carr recounted the experience on the ‘Saving Grace’ podcast’ with host GK Barry, describing Holden’s repeated attempts to get ice for her rosé.
“‘Every time Amanda asks, “Can I have ice with my rosé?” And I’d say, ‘Love, there is no ice,’” he shared humorously. “Every time, it’s like, ‘No.’ Unless they scrape it off the wings, love, there’s not going to be any ice on this flight,” he joked, adding, “She thinks it’s the Ivy with wings.”
Holden and Carr made headlines with their Italian renovation project in Tuscany. The pair purchased a dilapidated home for just 85p through Italy’s €1 home scheme, an initiative to reverse population decline in rural areas. Their journey, chronicled on ‘Amanda & Alan’s Italian Job,’ saw them transform the property, eventually selling it for a significant profit.
According to *The Mirror*, the home sold for £187,777 just two months after it was listed—a testament to their work and the show’s popularity.
During the podcast, Carr shared other amusing celebrity anecdotes from his career, including a memorable moment with pop icon Lady Gaga. Recalling one of her appearances on his ‘Chatty Man’ show, Carr explained that her elaborate outfit prevented her from conventionally using the restroom. “She was wearing a dress with a massive bow and a big long fringe,” he said, laughing, “and she couldn’t get out of it, so she ended up using a bin.”
Carr also shared stories of his own missteps and wild moments from the show, admitting that he sometimes got “really p****d” during filming. On one occasion, he became drunk enough to comment on a guest’s lazy eye, saying humorously, “You got one on dim, you got one on dazzle.
One eye looking at you, one eye looking for you.” Reflecting on another live TV mishap early in his career, Carr recalled a segment on ‘Crufts’, the annual dog show, where the dog he was presenting slipped its lead and ran off, leaving him scrambling on live television.
Holden and Carr’s on-screen and off-screen chemistry continues to entertain fans, and their light-hearted banter and unusual experiences make for compelling anecdotes. Fans can look forward to more travel escapades from the pair when ‘Amanda & Alan’s Spanish Job debuts, promising new adventures and, undoubtedly, a fresh round of stories.
