Amad Diallo was the hero in a thrilling Manchester derby on Sunday, leading Manchester United to a dramatic 2-1 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
City had been in control for most of the match, with Josko Gvardiol’s first-half goal giving them a 1-0 lead. However, in the game’s dying moments, Diallo won a penalty after being fouled by Matheus Nunes in the 88th minute. Bruno Fernandes stepped up to convert the spot-kick, levelling the score.
Just two minutes later, Diallo secured the win for United, finding the back of the net in the final seconds to seal all three points. The goal sent United’s away supporters into jubilant celebration, while the home crowd fell into stunned silence as City’s title hopes took a further blow.
Speaking after the match, United captain Bruno Fernandes praised Diallo’s performance: “He has been doing great things, and there is still a lot to come from him. When he is like this, he is unstoppable. I’m sure he can do this every week.”
Football pundit Leon Osman also highlighted Diallo’s awareness: “Amad Diallo was aware of the potential of a bad pass and got into a good position to win the penalty. It’s a big result for United and a disastrous one for City.”
With the win, United climbed to 12th in the Premier League table, while City dropped to 5th, now three points behind Arsenal, four points behind Chelsea, and nine points behind leaders Liverpool.
The result has given United a much-needed boost, while City’s title aspirations now look uncertain.
