The Irish Prime Minister (Taoiseach) is preparing to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and reiterating Ireland’s plea for an immediate ceasefire during his upcoming meetings with senior EU leaders in Brussels and Warsaw.

Simon Harris will travel to Brussels today to engage with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola.

Additionally, Mr Harris will journey to Warsaw for discussions with European Council President Charles Michel, expanding Ireland’s diplomatic efforts.

During his time in Poland, the Taoiseach will participate in a summit hosted by Prime Minister Donald Tusk, joining leaders from Spain, Finland, Estonia, Greece, and Luxembourg.

This collective effort underscores Ireland’s commitment to collaboratively addressing regional and global challenges.

Mr. Harris intends to use these diplomatic engagements to shed light on the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, advocating for an immediate ceasefire and reopening aid routes to alleviate suffering. Furthermore, Ireland stands ready to formally recognize the state of Palestine, reinforcing its position on Middle East peace.

Recent discussions in Ireland’s parliamentary chamber, the Dáil, revealed Tánaiste Micheál Martin’s pledge to propose recognition of a Palestinian state to the Government after more comprehensive international consultations conclude, showcasing Ireland’s proactive stance.

The Taoiseach and other Irish leaders have unequivocally condemned what they perceive as war crimes in Gaza and the ongoing bombardment of its people. Their efforts underscore Ireland’s commitment to peace, justice, and humanitarian relief in conflict zones.

These diplomatic initiatives highlight Ireland’s proactive role in global humanitarian issues, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation and dialogue in resolving complex crises.

Participation in EU summits and engagements with crucial leaders demonstrate Ireland’s determination to amplify its voice on critical global matters, advocating for peace, justice, and relief in conflict-affected regions.

The upcoming EU Council summit offers a crucial opportunity for Ireland to garner support for its diplomatic endeavours, contributing significantly to broader international efforts to alleviate suffering and foster lasting peace in conflict zones such as Gaza.
