Neymar, the Brazilian forward, will not participate in the 2024 Copa América in the United States, according to the national team doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar.
M10News learned Neymar sustained a severe knee injury in October, tearing his anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus during Brazil’s World Cup qualifying defeat to Uruguay. He underwent surgery two weeks later.
The Copa América tournament is scheduled to begin on June 20 and conclude on July 14. Lasmar stated that it is too early for Neymar to return to the field and that there is no benefit in skipping steps to recover sooner and risking further injury.
The expectation is that Neymar will be ready to return to play at the start of the 2024 season in Europe, which is in August.
