A 35-year-old Nigerian woman, Chidinma Chinenye Agbazue, has been detained by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for attempting to export 20 parcels of cannabis sativa, totalling 10.70 kilograms
She was arrested at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos on her way to Doha, Qatar, according to Sahara Reporters.
Femi Babafemi, NDLEA Director of Media & Advocacy, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, revealing that the cannabis parcels were disguised within African salad, commonly known as Abacha, and dried vegetables.
According to Babafemi, NDLEA officers at the Lagos airport, in collaboration with the Department of State Security Services, intercepted Chidinma on Thursday, March 28th, during the passenger screening process at Terminal 11 of the MMIA.
Preliminary investigations indicated that Chidinma, who resides in Qatar but returned to Nigeria for the holidays last December, was handed the contraband at Club Dice Hotel in Ikotun, Lagos, in preparation for her return to Doha.
Additionally, in Bayelsa, NDLEA operatives thwarted the smuggling attempt of opioids—codeine, molly, tramadol, and diazepam—weighing a total of 73.425 kilograms by three suspects: Ebuka Eze, Ugochukwu Okoro, and Kingsley Uzim. Ebuka and Ugochukwu were apprehended at Swali Jetty, Yenagoa, while Uzim was nabbed at Amasoma. The drugs were concealed in jumbo sacks and transported to the jetty using a tricycle.
Furthermore, in a separate operation in Ogun state, two suspects, Eniola Muyideen and Bankole Shuaib, were arrested with 137 blocks of cannabis weighing 71 kilograms during a raid at Orile Imo on Friday, March 29th.
