Portugal Tops the List as Best Value Holiday Destination in Europe

According to the Holiday Money Report by Post Office Travel Money, Portugal, especially the Algarve region, is your top choice.

The report reveals that the sterling is more robust than many other currencies, making destinations like Portugal more affordable for British travellers.

Prices for meals, drinks, and other tourist items have dropped in 25 of 40 surveyed resorts and cities since last year.

In the Algarve, you can enjoy a cup of coffee for as little as 88p and grab a small bottle of beer for just £2.20. Even a three-course evening meal for two won’t break the bank, costing as little as £39.52, a 1.2% decrease from last year.

Laura Plunkett, Head of Post Office Travel Money, advises travellers to consider how the strength of sterling affects individual destinations.

While long-haul travellers will get more for their money, eurozone destinations like Portugal and Cyprus offer great bargains, too.

For instance, in Portugal, you can expect to pay around €12 (£10.40) for a meal in an inexpensive restaurant and €2.50 (£2.17) for a pint of beer.

And if you’re in Lisbon, don’t miss trying Ginjinha for as little as €1.50 (£1.30) at A Ginjinha.

Looking beyond Portugal, Bratislava in Slovakia is another budget-friendly option.

With pints of beer averaging around £1.60, it’s a haven for enthusiasts.

According to food and drinks blogger Global Treats, beer is even cheaper than water in some places in Bratislava!

So, whether you’re craving a relaxing beach holiday in Portugal or eager to explore the charming streets of Bratislava, there are plenty of wallet-friendly options in Europe.
