Families of those on board Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, which vanished a decade ago, are feeling hopeful as the 10th anniversary approaches.
Despite extensive search efforts, the aircraft’s fate remains a mystery, fueling various conspiracy theories.

As Malaysia gears up for the anniversary, there’s a push for a renewed search for the plane.
MH370, a Boeing 777 carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew, disappeared en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8, 2014.

After a two-year, $130-million underwater search led by Malaysia, Australia, and China ended in 2017 with no answers, Malaysia’s transport minister Anthony Loke announced discussions with US seabed exploration firm Ocean Infinity for a new search proposal.
During a remembrance event, Loke assured families that the Malaysian government is committed to finding MH370.
His announcement brought tears of joy to some, including Jacquita Gomes, whose husband was a flight attendant on the plane. She expressed gratitude for the chance for closure and to say a final goodbye.

Malaysia had previously engaged Ocean Infinity in 2018 for a search in the southern Indian Ocean, offering up to $70 million if the plane was found.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was willing to reopen the search if there is compelling evidence.
V.P.R. Nathan, a Voice MH370 next-of-kin group member, mentioned that Ocean Infinity’s search was initially delayed due to fleet issues but is now set to resume.
Ocean Infinity CEO Oliver Plunkett expressed confidence in their improved technology and collaborative efforts to narrow down the search area.
