Angel Torres, the president of Getafe, has revealed that Manchester United’s on-loan forward, Mason Greenwood, is enthusiastic about prolonging his time with the Spanish club for another season.
Greenwood moved to Getafe during the latter part of the summer transfer window following Manchester United’s decision to have him restart his career elsewhere after an internal investigation related to his arrest in January 2022. Despite charges against him being dropped last February, Manchester United faced backlash from supporters over his potential return.
Since joining Getafe, Greenwood has showcased excellent form, tallying five goals and five assists in the current season.
While United’s new co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, hasn’t ruled out Greenwood’s return to Old Trafford, Torres believes the player is keen on continuing his journey in La Liga.
“He has a clear conscience; he is very comfortable and crazy about staying another year,” Torres stated in an interview with the Spanish radio station Cope. However, Torres acknowledged that the final decision rests with Manchester United and their new ownership.
Torres also addressed rumours regarding an incident involving Jude Bellingham allegedly referring to Greenwood as a rapist during a recent match against Real Madrid. He clarified that Getafe had not filed an official complaint, emphasizing Greenwood’s dedication to playing and dismissing any discussions with Real Madrid’s president, Florentino Perez.
The situation highlights Greenwood’s commitment to Getafe and the speculation surrounding his future at Manchester United amidst his successful stint in Spain.
