The police (Gardaí) have arrested a man in his late 30s after seizing €62,800 in cash and a high-powered car in Cobh, Co Cork, on Saturday.
The operation was part of an ongoing investigation into the sale and distribution of controlled drugs and associated criminal activities in the county.
A statement released by Garda revealed that the Midleton District Drug Unit and local Garda Units from Cobh, Midleton and Fermoy searched a residential property in Cobh. During the search, they discovered a sum of cash and a car. The man in possession of these items has been detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996, at a Garda station in Co. Cork. He may be held for up to 7 days.
In a follow-up search of another residence in the Cobh area, Gardaí also seized €3,500 worth of suspected cocaine, 180 rounds of ammunition, an ammunition press, incapacitant spray and drug-related paraphernalia. All confiscated items are subject to forensic analysis and examination.
