Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he is ready to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin “in any format” as he wrapped up a series of meetings in Washington.
Speaking after talks at the White House, Zelenskyy outlined proposals for both bilateral and trilateral talks, indicating that Putin himself suggested a direct Ukraine-Russia meeting followed by wider discussions involving the United States.

The development comes amid confusion over sequencing, with Donald Trump initially indicating that a trilateral summit would be the next step, before later insisting it could only take place after a face-to-face between Kyiv and Moscow.
Zelenskyy told reporters that security guarantees formed a central part of his conversations with both Trump and European leaders, stressing that Washington had delivered “important signals” on Ukraine’s defence needs.
According to the Ukrainian leader, the specific details of those guarantees are expected to be finalized within 10 days, a timeline he suggested would be crucial for Kyiv’s long-term stability.
He added that the United States has offered to host the trilateral talks “as soon as possible,” underlining Washington’s push to remain at the centre of efforts to de-escalate the war.

Much of Zelenskyy’s messaging repeated themes from his earlier remarks inside the White House, where he emphasised Ukraine’s openness to negotiations while maintaining a firm stance on national sovereignty.
“Ukraine will never stop on the path to peace, and we are ready for any format of meeting,” he declared, reaffirming his readiness for dialogue under international supervision.

His comments reflect a strategic attempt to keep diplomatic channels open while testing Moscow’s willingness to engage constructively, amid uncertainty over Trump’s shifting positions.
With his remarks now concluded, attention turns to whether Putin will formally agree to the proposed sequence of meetings, and whether the US can accelerate the process of securing binding guarantees for Kyiv.
