A new static safety camera will be activated next month in Dublin’s Dolphin’s Barn area, following persistent problems with speeding, Gardaí have confirmed.
The new enforcement device is scheduled to begin operating at 12 midday on Friday, 1 August 2025, and will be located alongside the Maxol garage on Crumlin Road.
From that date, any motorist detected exceeding the posted speed limit will face prosecution under Ireland’s fixed charge system, incurring a €160 fine and three penalty points on their driving licence.
The decision to install the camera follows ongoing safety concerns raised by authorities regarding excessive speed in the area.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, a Garda spokesperson said:
“Vehicles detected driving in excess of the posted speed limit will be subject to prosecution from 12 midday Friday, 1st August 2025. Prosecution of speeding offences takes place by Fixed Charge Notice (FCN). The current Fixed Charge Notice is a €160 fine accompanied by three penalty points.”
The new camera will be situated at the following coordinates:
Latitude: 53.331872
Longitude: -6.294081
Dolphin’s Barn, located in Dublin 8, is a key arterial route with high pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Officials say the addition of the static speed camera aims to reduce road risk and reinforce compliance with posted limits.
The measure is part of An Garda Síochána’s broader national strategy to improve road safety, particularly in known speed risk zones. Over the past year, the number of safety camera zones across Ireland has expanded, with additional enforcement points introduced in both urban and rural locations.
Gardaí are encouraging all drivers to be aware of new enforcement locations and to adhere to speed limits at all times.
