Emily Atack Engaged to Longtime Partner Dr Alistair Garner in Romantic Holiday Reveal

British actress and television personality Emily Atack has announced her engagement to her partner, Dr Alistair Garner, marking a joyful new chapter in her personal life.

The Inbetweeners and Rivals star, 35, shared the news with her fans on Friday evening via a candid photo posted from what appears to be a sun-soaked countryside escape.

The image showed Atack and Garner embracing in front of a rustic stone house, with Atack’s hand gently resting on his chest, her engagement ring prominently on display.

“It’s Friday, I’m in love 💍💍💍,” she captioned the post, echoing the lyrics of the iconic song by The Cure, as congratulatory messages poured in across social media.

The couple, who are believed to have started dating in 2022, looked relaxed and content in the photo. Garner, a tanned and casually dressed materials scientist specialising in aerospace and nuclear engineering, smiled calmly for the camera. At the same time, Atack beamed beside him in a white top and natural styling.

The engagement ring, visible in the photo, featured a yellow-gold band with what appears to be a striking emerald-cut diamond — a piece fans have described as both elegant and understated.

The engagement comes just over a year after the couple welcomed their first child together. Their son, Barney James, was born in June 2024, and the couple have largely kept their family life private, occasionally sharing glimpses online.

Friends and co-stars were quick to celebrate the news. Singer and fellow I’m A Celebrity alum Fleur East commented, “Woooo! Let’s gooo!!! Congrats ❤️❤️,” while broadcaster Laura Whitmore wrote, “Yassssss! Delighted for you both, you cuties xxx.”

Singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor left a stream of heart and clapping emojis, and Rivals co-star Bella Maclean — who plays Taggie — added, “AHHHHHHHHHHH❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️”

Atack is currently filming the second season of Rivals, the television adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s bestselling novel, where she portrays Sarah Stratton — a politician’s wife whose personal life becomes increasingly complicated as the story unfolds.

The first season left viewers with a cliffhanger involving her character’s unexpected pregnancy, following romantic entanglements with multiple men, including the notorious Rupert Campbell-Black and James Vereker.

In a recent interview with Metro, Atack reflected humorously on her experience filming nude scenes for the series, including one memorable scene involving a naked tennis match.

“Sometimes you do become so relaxed that you are just sitting there with your knockers out and go, ‘Oh, right, okay, God, I’ve forgotten to put my robe on,’” she joked, before adding, “It ended up being quite a liberating experience.”

While fans eagerly await the second season of Rivals, Atack’s milestone has brought a wave of celebration to her growing audience, both for her acting talent and her candid, relatable personality off-screen.
