Reform UK MP James McMurdock has suspended himself from the party following allegations concerning his business affairs.
In a statement released by Reform UK’s chief whip Lee Anderson, it was confirmed that McMurdock has removed the party whip from himself pending the outcome of an investigation into allegations expected to be published by a national newspaper.

“I have today received a call from James McMurdock who has advised me, as Chief Whip, that he has removed the party whip from himself pending the outcome of an investigation into allegations that are likely to be published by a national newspaper,” Anderson stated around 1pm.
“The allegations relate to business propriety during the pandemic and before he became an MP,” the statement continued.
Reform UK has pledged to take the matter seriously, with McMurdock agreeing to cooperate fully with any investigation.
James McMurdock, who previously worked in the banking sector, joined Reform UK in 2024. He was elected as the MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock during last year’s general election, narrowly defeating Labour by 98 votes and taking the seat from the Conservatives.

The incident adds to a string of controversies within Reform UK. In March, fellow Reform MP Rupert Lowe was suspended from the party over allegations that he made threats of physical violence towards the party’s then-chairman Zia Yusuf.
Those allegations were referred to the Metropolitan Police, who later confirmed that no charges would be brought against Lowe. The MP for Great Yarmouth has consistently denied any wrongdoing, describing the accusations as a politically motivated “witch hunt” following his public criticism of party leader Nigel Farage.
This is a developing story, and further updates are expected as more information emerges.
