Amid speculation surrounding Osimhen’s club future following Napoli owner Aurelio de Laurentiis’s announcement of his departure from the Serie A champions at the end of the season, reports surfaced on Saturday suggesting Osimhen’s potential move to Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side is reportedly eager to bolster their squad with a new central striker, with Osimhen emerging as a prime target.
After Nigeria’s win over Cameroon, Osimhen had the opportunity to meet and converse with Chelsea’s legendary striker, Didier Drogba, at AFCON. Expressing his gratitude, Osimhen stated on the Ivorian network NCI, ‘It’s an honour to play on the land of Didier Drogba, my idol.’
Addressing the ongoing speculation about his future, Osimhen affirmed his decision-making autonomy, stating, ‘The rumour is going around about me being linked with the Premier League. Of course, when you’re one of the hottest strikers in the world, you expect this type of thing.’
He emphasised his commitment to Napoli for the remainder of the season, stating, ‘I’m with Napoli, signed a new contract, and enjoying my time there with the team.’ Osimhen hinted at his plans, concluding, ‘I already have my plan, I already know the next step I want to take, so for now, I just want to finish the season strong.’
