Middle East — The United States’ recent strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities have sent shockwaves across the globe, with Iran vowing “serious consequences” and Russia warning that the world is teetering on the brink of a regional war with potentially catastrophic global fallout.
The situation escalated dramatically after U.S. forces, reportedly using B-2 stealth bombers, targeted Iran’s underground nuclear site at Fordow over the weekend. The precision bombing has triggered a flurry of warnings from regional powers and global players alike.

Iranian state television anchor Mehdi Khanalizadeh, delivering a stark warning, accused former President Donald Trump of “choosing to spill the blood of [his] soldiers.” He declared that Trump had effectively signed off on “coffins of up to 50,000 US soldiers being delivered to Washington.”
Russia Condemns U.S. Strikes at U.N. Emergency Session
During an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council, Russian ambassador Vassily Nebenzia condemned the attacks, describing them as reckless and destabilizing. “No one knows what new catastrophes and suffering this will bring,” Nebenzia said.
He added that Moscow had offered to mediate a diplomatic resolution to Iran’s nuclear program but accused U.S. leaders of rejecting peaceful avenues. “The United States is clearly not interested in diplomacy today,” he said.

Nebenzia warned that without immediate de-escalation, the Middle East could plunge into a “large-scale conflict with unpredictable consequences for the entire international security system.” He also raised alarm over the heightened risk of a nuclear disaster.
Trump Taunts Iran as Airstrikes Continue
Despite international appeals for restraint, former President Trump appeared to double down on his rhetoric. In a string of posts on his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed the strikes inflicted “monumental damage” on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. “Obliteration is an accurate term… Bullseye!!!” he wrote, boasting that the damage extended “far below ground level.”
Trump also hinted at the possibility of regime change, stating: “If the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a regime change??? MIGA!!!”

The Pentagon has yet to officially confirm the specifics of the bombing campaign, but Trump stated that the B-2 pilots involved had safely returned to base in Missouri.
Israel Launches Coordinated Strikes
In a parallel development, the Israeli Air Force confirmed it launched multiple strikes against Iranian military sites in Kermanshah, a city in western Iran with a population of over one million. According to Israeli officials, more than 15 fighter jets were involved in the operation, which reportedly destroyed several missile storage and launch facilities.
The back-and-forth attacks between Iran and Israel have continued into the early hours of Monday, adding to fears of a broader regional confrontation.
Iran Warns of Retaliation, Expands Target List
Iran’s military has vowed retaliation, with Ebrahim Zolfaqari, spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, warning that the U.S. had vastly expanded the scope of Iran’s legitimate military targets.
“Mr. Trump, the gambler — you may start this war, but we will be the ones to end it,” Zolfaqari said in a direct message delivered in English.
An advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei also warned that U.S. military bases in the region are now considered legitimate targets.
Strait of Hormuz Under Threat
Amid rising tensions, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio called on China to intervene diplomatically to prevent Iran from attempting to close the Strait of Hormuz — a narrow maritime passage through which around 20% of the world’s oil supply flows.
“If Iran closes the Strait, it would be economic suicide,” Rubio told Fox News. “We retain options to deal with that, but the global impact would be severe. Other countries, especially those dependent on oil flow through the strait, need to step in now.”
Analysts warn that any attempt by Iran to disrupt shipping through the Strait would likely spark international military and economic responses, potentially igniting a global energy crisis.
Analysis:
This is the most severe U.S.–Iran escalation in years, with ripple effects spreading across Israel, Russia, China, and beyond. Diplomatic options appear increasingly scarce as leaders on all sides exchange threats and rhetoric. With no clear path to de-escalation, global powers must act swiftly to avert a potentially uncontrollable regional war.
