Iran has officially confirmed that multiple nuclear facilities were struck by what it described as “enemy airstrikes,” hours after former U.S. President Donald Trump claimed responsibility for a direct military attack on key nuclear infrastructure.
Morteza Haydari, spokesperson for crisis management in Qom province, said part of the Fordow nuclear enrichment plant had been hit. “Enemy airstrikes targeted a section of the Fordow facility,” Haydari said, according to the semi-official Tasnim News Agency.
Separately, Akbar Salehi, deputy security officer for the governor of Isfahan, stated that Iranian air defenses were activated in both Isfahan and Kashan. “An hour ago, air defences in Isfahan and Kashan began operating to confront hostile targets,” Salehi told local media.
This marks the first official confirmation from Iranian authorities of damage to its nuclear infrastructure following Trump’s earlier statement that the U.S. had launched what he called a “very successful” strike on Fordow, declaring: “Fordow is gone.”
The Pentagon has yet to comment, and the extent of the damage remains unverified independently. No casualties have been officially reported.
