A British man has been left on life support in Thailand after suffering a serious head injury, believed to be the result of an assault during a night out in Bangkok.
Ashton Jones, 29, from Cwmbran, Wales, had travelled to Thailand on a spontaneous trip to visit a childhood friend. He disappeared after becoming separated from his group during an evening out in the capital.

His friends reported him missing five days into the trip. After a search and contact with local authorities, he was found at Chonburi Hospital, around 80km from Bangkok.
Doctors confirmed that Jones had undergone emergency brain surgery after sustaining severe head trauma. Although he briefly regained consciousness a week later, he remains non-verbal, bedridden, and is suffering frequent seizures.
Medical staff say it is too early to predict whether he will fully recover.
Jones did not have travel insurance at the time of the incident, leaving his family struggling to cover rising medical costs. His grandmother, Beverley Walker, said the situation is becoming increasingly desperate.
“Without immediate financial or diplomatic assistance, my grandson may not survive,” she said. “The emotional toll is unbearable.”
The family has launched a GoFundMe campaign in a bid to raise £50,000 to fund ongoing treatment and repatriation to the UK.
Walker described the family’s emotional and financial challenges, adding: “He’s suffering with fits, can’t talk, eat, or drink. We’ve already spent our life savings to be by his side.”
Air ambulance costs for repatriating Jones are expected to run into tens of thousands of pounds.
The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) confirmed that it is assisting the family and liaising with Thai authorities.

“We are supporting a British man who has been hospitalised in Thailand and are in contact with local authorities,” an FCDO spokesperson said.
No details have been released about how Jones sustained the injuries, and it remains unclear whether Thai police are investigating the incident.
The case has prompted renewed warnings about the risks of travelling abroad without insurance, particularly in countries where private healthcare is expensive.
Travel experts are urging UK tourists to always ensure they are covered, regardless of the length or spontaneity of their trip.
The Jones family has asked the public for help in sharing the fundraiser and raising awareness of Ashton’s condition.
