Formula One pundit Martin Brundle has been ridiculed on social media after mistakenly congratulating boxer Conor Benn — despite his recent defeat to Chris Eubank Jr.
The incident took place during Sky Sports F1’s live coverage from the Miami Grand Prix paddock, where Brundle interviewed Benn as part of his usual pre-race celebrity walkabout.
“Wow, what a boxing match that was, congratulations,” Brundle told Benn, seemingly unaware that the 27-year-old had lost by unanimous decision in a 12-round bout at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last month.
Benn responded: “Thank you… I appreciate that. Although it was a great fight, I didn’t get the W that I came for. So hopefully we’ll run it back in September and I can make amends.
“This is my first time here — it’s absolutely amazing. What an event, what an occasion. I see why loads of people turn up.”

The exchange quickly went viral, with viewers branding it “awkward” and “cringeworthy.” One user on X, formerly Twitter, wrote: “Honestly, I was dying inside.” Another added: “Felt stressed watching it.”
Brundle, a former F1 driver turned broadcaster, is known for his spontaneous interviews during the grid walk — often with unpredictable results. Some users blamed the producers, suggesting he hadn’t been briefed properly.

Elsewhere at the Miami GP, McLaren’s Oscar Piastri claimed victory — his fourth win in six races this season. Team-mate Lando Norris finished second, with Mercedes’ George Russell completing the podium in third.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen ended the race in fourth, while Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton finished down in eighth.
