Two passenger planes collided on the tarmac of New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido, Japan. This incident occurred during blizzard conditions and involved a Korean Air and Cathay Pacific plane. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported among the 289 passengers on the Korean Air plane, and none were on the Cathay Pacific.
This incident comes just weeks after another crash in the region, where a passenger jet burst into flames at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport after a collision between two aircraft. The planes collided shortly after 5:30 pm local time, and the fire started at around 6 pm local time on Tuesday.
All passengers and crew from the Japan Airlines plane were evacuated safely, but five crew members from the Japanese Coast Guard plane were found dead, and its pilot is reportedly in critical condition.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation. However, the airport had already posted a warning about the heavy snow conditions and had cancelled and delayed more than 46 flights on the day of the incident. The incident has raised concerns about air travel safety during extreme weather conditions.
