Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly been excluded from Hugh Grosvenor’s wedding to the Duke of Westminster. Grosvenor is set to marry Olivia Henson on June 7 at Chester Cathedral in England. He is said to invite King Charles III, Queen Camilla, William, and his wife, Kate Middleton. Grosvenor initially wanted to ask the Sussexes but later decided against it after realizing their presence might overshadow his nuptials to Henson. A spokesperson for Grosvenor declined to comment on the guest list.
Grosvenor is Charles’ godson and served an official role in the monarch’s coronation in May. An unidentified friend of the estranged princes said it is “unfortunate it has come to this” and that “Hugh is one of the very few close friends of William and Harry’s who has maintained strong bonds and a line of communication with both”. The friend added that Grosvenor wishes the brothers could “put their heads together and patch things up, but realizes it’s unlikely to happen before the wedding.”
The news comes shortly after the release of “Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival” by royal expert Omid Scobie. The book paints several senior members of the House of Windsor negatively, including William, who allegedly attempted to undermine Harry and Meghan by leaking false stories to the press. According to the book, William “prioritized his loyalty to the monarchy”. Friends of William and Kate have since denied the claims.
William allegedly believes that his younger brother was “brainwashed by an army of therapists” and openly criticized Harry and Meghan after the release of their Netflix series. According to an unidentified royal aide, the string “took the wind out of everyone’s sails”, and Charles openly mocked the couple.
Sarah Hewson, a royal expert, has said that William has “no plans” to see his brother again unless he attends an unavoidable event. As such, Meghan and Harry are not expected to attend the royal family’s get-together at Sandringham over Christmas. Hewson said it is “tough to see any occasion other than a family funeral, where the brothers would be in the same place together”.
