Police are searching for a suspect after a woman was tragically set on fire and burned to death on a subway train in Brooklyn, New York, on Sunday morning in a disturbing and horrifying attack.
The New York City Police Department (NYPD) reported that the incident occurred at the Stillwell Avenue Subway station in Coney Island around 7:30 a.m. Authorities stated the woman had been sleeping on a stationary “F” train when an unknown man approached her, set her on fire, and then left the subway car.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) pronounced the woman dead at the scene. Disturbing video footage circulating online appears to show the woman standing in the train while engulfed in flames, with a man matching the description of the suspect seen sitting nearby on a bench, watching the horrific scene unfold.
The NYPD has described the suspect as a man who is 5’6” tall, weighs 150 pounds, and is approximately 25 to 30 years old. At the time of the incident, the suspect wore a grey hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, a dark beanie with a red band, and brown boots.
In response to the brutal crime, NYPD Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the identification and capture of the suspect.
