A 24-year-old Nigerian drug dealer from Lewisham, South London, was caught after police found selfies of him showing off stacks of cash and wearing three Rolex watches.
Michael Babalola was linked to drug dealing activities when officers raided his brother Olusegen’s home in Peterborough in May last year. During the raid, authorities uncovered more than £7,000 worth of heroin and crack cocaine concealed in a tissue box, along with weighing scales and mobile phones, including a deal line.
While Olusegun was charged and subsequently sentenced to eight years in prison, there was initially no direct evidence tying Michael to the drugs found in the flat.
However, investigators later uncovered evidence of his involvement in bulk cannabis supply and possession of illicit funds.
Police also found selfies of Michael posing with large sums of cash and multiple Rolex watches, which helped solidify the case against him.
Michael, of South Road, Lewisham, pleaded guilty to charges of being concerned in the supply of cannabis and possession of criminal property.
He was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison by Peterborough Crown Court.
Detective Constable Olly Campbell stated, “We are actively targeting those who think it is acceptable to commit crime and supply drugs in Cambridgeshire, including those who travel from other areas of the country.
As a result of our investigation into his brother – now serving an eight-year prison sentence – we uncovered Michael’s criminality.”
The case serves as a reminder of the consequences of flaunting illicit activities on social media.
