Melania Trump Declines White House Meeting with Jill Biden, Citing Mar-a-Lago Raid
Washington, D.C. — Melania Trump has declined an invitation to meet with first lady Jill Biden at the White House this Wednesday, citing lingering resentment over the FBI’s 2022 raid on the Trumps’ Mar-a-Lago estate.
The raid was part of a federal investigation into classified documents allegedly withheld after Donald Trump left office.
According to a source close to Melania Trump, “She ain’t going. Jill Biden’s husband authorized the FBI snooping through her underwear drawer. The Bidens are disgusting.” The source added that Melania does not see any need to meet Jill Biden.
Meanwhile, President-elect Donald Trump will meet with President Joe Biden in the Oval Office on Wednesday as part of the traditional postelection transition protocol. Typically, the sitting first lady hosts her successor for tea at the White House, a tradition dating back decades. Melania participated in this tradition in 2016, when she visited the White House for a tour led by then–first lady Michelle Obama following Trump’s election win.
However, this isn’t the first break in White House tradition between the Trumps and Bidens. After his 2020 election defeat, Donald Trump did not invite the incoming Biden family to the White House, which is typically done before the inauguration.
The FBI raid at Mar-a-Lago, which occurred in August 2022, has been a point of contention for the Trumps.
In September, Melania expressed her frustration on Fox & Friends, calling the raid an “invasion of privacy.” The search reportedly extended into her wardrobe, Donald Trump’s office, and even one of her son Barron’s rooms. “I saw unpleasant stuff that nobody wants to see,” she said, describing the state of their home post-raid and adding that it left her feeling “angry.”
The Trump campaign and White House have not provided additional comments on Melania’s decision to skip the meeting with Jill Biden. The investigation that led to the raid ultimately concluded this July, when U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed the case against Trump regarding the handling of classified documents.
