Sinéad O’Connor, the Irish singer-songwriter, died in July 2023 at 56. Her death came just days after she cancelled all her music gigs to take care of her health following the death of her 17-year-old son, Shane, by suicide. Shortly after her death, police announced that O’Connor had been found unresponsive at an apartment in London.
The coroner has now confirmed that she died of natural causes. O’Connor’s family and friends were devastated by her passing and have requested privacy at this challenging time.
O’Connor was known for her music as well as her controversial political actions. She made her last public appearance in March 2023 at the RTÉ Choice Music Prize, where she looked happy and healthy as she accepted the award for Best Irish Classic Album. The trophy was given in honour of 1990’s “I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got.”
O’Connor had a long and successful career as a musician, with hits like “Nothing Compares 2 U” and “Mandinka.” She was also a political activist and was known for her outspoken views on a variety of issues. O’Connor’s death is a significant loss to the music industry and her fans worldwide.
Her three other children survive her: her son Jake, 36; her daughter Roisin, 27; and her son Yeshua, 17.
