Texas Teen Arrested for Fatal Shooting of Sonic Manager Over Counterfeit Money Dispute

A 17-year-old Texas girl has been arrested after a months-long search for allegedly fatally shooting a Sonic manager during an argument over counterfeit money.

Following a multi-agency operation, Adiah Roberson was apprehended at a Dallas apartment complex parking lot.

Roberson had been on the Texas 10 Most Wanted list since July 16, according to Fox 4 News.

Roberson is accused of murdering Daniel Shrewsbury, 33, while he was working the night shift at a San Antonio Sonic on July 7. Shrewsbury, described as a “caring” individual by his family, was just days away from his 34th birthday when he was killed.

The altercation reportedly began when Roberson and two others attempted to pay for food with counterfeit money.

Shrewsbury attempted to photograph their license plate as the group left the fast-food establishment. Another suspect, Joshua Joseph, 27, who was arrested in August and charged with murder, allegedly warned Shrewsbury that he would be shot if he continued to take the photo.

According to police, moments later, Roberson exited the vehicle and opened fire on Shrewsbury before fleeing the scene. The Sonic manager was declared dead at the scene.

A witness at the drive-through that night recalled hearing three gunshots and seeing a frantic employee running out of the restaurant, shouting that one of her co-workers had been shot. “I heard the first gunshot, but it didn’t register,” the witness told KENS5. “Then two more, and I knew something bad was happening. I was scared and tried to get out of there.”

Shrewsbury, the oldest of three siblings, was known for his love of video games and close-knit relationship with his family.

His younger brother, Jojo Shrewsbury, described him as a good brother to everyone, while his sister, Jazmin Robinson, expressed her grief in a heartfelt Facebook post. “He did not deserve to go like this,” she wrote. “They took my brother without caring about his family or loved ones. I will never forget how amazing and hard-working he was.”

In addition to the murder charge, Roberson was wanted for forgery of a government document.

Authorities believe she had been evading capture by moving around Texas, from San Antonio to Austin, before being tracked to Dallas. US Marshals revealed that a tip led to her arrest.

Roberson is currently held on a $520,000 bond and will be transferred to San Antonio for trial. It remains uncertain whether she will be tried as a juvenile.

Under Texas law, minors convicted of capital murder can face life imprisonment with the possibility of parole after 40 years.
