Elon Musk to Attend Donald Trump’s Rally in Butler, PA Following Assassination Attempt
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has confirmed he will attend former President Donald Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, this weekend.
Musk announced his plans late Thursday, retweeting Trump’s promotional post for the rally, adding, “I will be there to support!”
Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, is returning to the Butler Farm Show grounds, the site of a July assassination attempt during one of his rallies. In the incident, a bullet grazed Trump’s ear, and one attendee, Corey Comperatore, was killed, with two others severely injured.
The attacker, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was shot and killed by Secret Service agents after opening fire from a rooftop near the fairgrounds.
Following the July attack, Musk officially endorsed Trump, posting on X (formerly Twitter), “I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery,” just 30 minutes after the assassination attempt.
The incident sparked sharp criticism of the Secret Service’s security measures, leading to an investigation into the agency’s actions that day.
Shortly afterward, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned. Trump also voiced his frustrations with the level of protection during a recent interview.
Speaking on NewsNation’s “CUOMO” show, Trump admitted he’s “always worried” about his safety ahead of rallies, adding, “I think that the White House isn’t treating us very good,” and calling for stronger security.
“It’s very unfair the way we’ve been treated,” Trump continued. “It’s really being led more so by the White House than anybody else.”
Earlier this week, President Joe Biden signed a bill that enhances Secret Service protection for Trump, giving him the same level of security as the sitting president and vice president. The bill passed both the House and Senate unanimously.
The increased security follows a second assassination attempt in September at Trump’s Palm Beach golf course. In that instance, a Secret Service agent spotted a gunman, Ryan Wesley Routh, before any shots were fired.
For the upcoming Butler rally, which could attract 15,000 to 60,000 attendees, security has been heightened.
The Secret Service has coordinated with local law enforcement to streamline measures, including deploying hundreds of agents, drones, and snipers to ensure safety at the event.
