Pop star Sabrina Carpenter made an off-key remark during her recent concert at Madison Square Garden, joking about having a hand in the indictment of New York City Mayor Eric Adams. However, the scandal tied to one of her controversial music videos has no connection to the corruption charges Adams currently faces.
The 25-year-old singer made the quip while interacting with fans during her performance in the Big Apple on Sunday night.
“Damn, what now? Should we talk about how I got the mayor indicted?” Carpenter said as fans cheered her on. The moment captured on social media, they have occurred as she took a break between songs.
Her comment came just days after Mayor Adams pleaded not guilty to federal charges of conspiracy, wire fraud, and bribery in Manhattan federal court. While Carpenter’s joke inserted her into the political drama, the case involving Adams is unrelated to the controversy surrounding one of her recent music videos.
The scandal involves Carpenter’s racy “Feather” music video, which was filmed in a Brooklyn church last year. Federal investigators have issued a subpoena to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Williamsburg, seeking information about interactions between one of its lead pastors, Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello, and Adams’ former chief of staff, Frank Carone.
The probe has drawn attention due to Gigantiello’s connection to the church and the mayor.
Gigantiello, who approved the filming of Carpenter’s provocative video in the 160-year-old Catholic church, was demoted last year. The video featured Carpenter in a little black dress, provocatively writhing on the church’s altar next to a coffin inscribed with “RIP Bitch.” The clip sparked outrage, leading to an internal investigation by the Brooklyn diocese.

When asked about the federal investigation, officials from the Brooklyn diocese issued a statement linking the inquiry to the church’s review of the circumstances surrounding Carpenter’s video shoot. “It would be inappropriate to comment further on that review, which is still ongoing,” the statement read.
Despite Carpenter’s light-hearted comment, there’s no link between her music video and the serious federal corruption charges facing Mayor Adams.
