Donald Trump Says Iran Made Assassination Attempts That ‘Didn’t Work Out,’ Now Surrounded by ‘More Guns’ Than Ever

Former President Donald Trump claimed early Wednesday that Iran is orchestrating ongoing assassination plots against him.

This revelation comes amid tensions with the U.S. adversary, marking an unprecedented threat against a former U.S. president.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump, 78, stated, “Big threats on my life by Iran. The entire U.S. Military is watching and waiting,” referencing the recent arrest of Ryan Wesley Routh, who was charged earlier this month with attempting to assassinate Trump at his South Florida golf course.

“Moves were already made by Iran that didn’t work out, but they will try again. Not a good situation for anyone,” Trump added, warning that the situation remains perilous.

The former president, currently the Republican nominee, acknowledged being surrounded by heightened security, noting, “I am surrounded by more men, guns, and weapons than I have ever seen before.”

He further expressed gratitude toward Congress for increasing funding to the Secret Service, stating,

“Thank you to Congress for unanimously approving far more money for the Secret Service – Zero ‘NO’ Votes, strictly bipartisan. Nice to see Republicans and Democrats get together on something.”

While Trump did not provide specific details on the attempts against him, his campaign released a statement explaining that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) had briefed Trump on “real and specific threats from Iran to assassinate him.” The briefing indicated that Iran aims to destabilise the United States by targeting Trump.

This information emerged as a new congressional report revealed that the Secret Service had been aware of intelligence indicating Iran’s potential involvement in assassination plots against Trump.

The report, released by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, suggested that this intelligence may have helped prevent the first of two assassination attempts on Trump this summer.

The July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Thomas Matthew Crooks attempted to assassinate Trump, was the first event where a Secret Service counter-sniper team was deployed to protect someone other than the sitting president, vice president, or a formally nominated presidential candidate.

The team had been sent in response to credible intelligence of a threat, and Crooks was killed by one of the counter-snipers after firing eight shots that struck Trump in the right ear and killed one audience member, Corey Comparatore.

A second attempt on Trump’s life occurred on September 15 at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. Secret Service agents identified Routh, 58, who was hiding in the bushes with a firearm, but Routh fled the scene after agents opened fire. He was later apprehended and now faces a life sentence.

Iran has reportedly targeted Trump and key members of his former administration, including former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and ex-National Security Adviser John Bolton, following Trump’s decision to order the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani in January 2020. The assassination heightened tensions between the U.S. and Iran, leading to threats against U.S. officials.

Recently, the FBI revealed that Iranian-linked hackers had stolen information from Trump’s campaign and offered it to President Biden’s campaign. These developments continue contributing to a volatile relationship between the two nations, with further threats against Trump expected.
