M10news — World No. 4 tennis player Elena Rybakina has reportedly parted ways with her coach Stefano Vukov just three days before the US Open, following allegations of psychological pressure and verbal abuse during their five-year partnership.
According to various reports, the 2022 Wimbledon champion ended her relationship with Vukov due to his “incorrect attitude” and the heavy pressure he allegedly placed on her, which has led to psychological challenges for the athlete. Vukov, known for his intense coaching style, has previously admitted to knowing how to provoke Rybakina.
Russian journalist Sofya Tartakova revealed on the Tennis Bolshei YouTube channel that Vukov was present in New York and ready to continue coaching Rybakina at the US Open. Still, she opted to terminate their collaboration due to ongoing difficulties. Tartakova stated, “He ‘ate’ her all the time,” referring to Vukov’s harsh treatment of Rybakina.
Rybakina’s parents reportedly supported her decision to break away from Vukov, expressing concerns about the ongoing pressure and insults she faced. Despite the close bond formed during their successful years together, they felt that a change was necessary for Rybakina’s well-being.
The situation surrounding Vukov has raised questions about his status within the WTA Tour. Tartakova noted discussions about a possible ban on him, but no official confirmation has been made. If Vukov finds a new protégé, it would suggest that no restrictions are currently in place against him.
Rybakina is now focused on overcoming the psychological issues stemming from her previous coaching experience as she prepares for the challenges ahead in her tennis career.
