A 64-year-old woman fromhad a harrowing experience when a 16-foot python wrapped itself around her waist while she was washing dishes in her kitchen outside Bangkok.
Arom Arunroj reported that she felt a sharp pain in her thigh and, upon looking down, realised the massive snake had latched onto her.
“I was about to scoop some water, and when I sat down, it bit me immediately,” Arunroj told Thairath, a local news outlet. “When I looked, I saw the snake wrapping around me.” Despite her attempts to grab the snake by the head, it tightened its grip, leaving her unable to stand. In a desperate bid for help, she propped herself against the kitchen door and screamed.
About 90 minutes later, a neighbour heard her cries and alerted authorities. Chilling footage captured first responders arriving to find an exhausted and pale Arunroj sitting on the floor, still entangled with the constrictor. Police and animal control officers were forced to strike the snake on the head with a crowbar to make it release her finally.
Arunroj was treated for several bites but was otherwise unharmed physically. Meanwhile, the python managed to slither away before it could be captured. Although snake encounters are not uncommon in Thailand, attacks by pythons on humans are rare. Pythons, which are non-venomous, typically kill their prey by constriction.
