The Alberta Royal Canadian Mounted Police are investigating the deaths of three individuals found in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, on Wednesday.
A statement released Thursday states that the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit is leading the investigation.
Details are sparse, but RCMP has assured that there is no risk to public safety. The investigation was initiated after the bodies were discovered on Wednesday evening.
A news conference is scheduled today at 2:15 p.m. MT outside the Lloydminster RCMP detachment. Staff Sgt. Brian Nicholl, the detachment commander, will address reporters and provide further details on the case.
As of Thursday afternoon, investigators were still at the scene at the intersection of 50th Street and 47th Avenue, a few blocks east of the Alberta-Saskatchewan border. Yellow police tape surrounded a small green bungalow with overgrown trees, and investigators were observed removing plastic totes from the home. Officers with blue medical gloves and white disposable boot covers were seen searching the front yard and grass with metal detectors.
On Wednesday evening, at 6:45 p.m., the RCMP issued an advisory indicating a heavy police presence in the city’s core but reassuring the public that the incident posed no risk. An update will be provided as more information becomes available.
