The US has rejected South Africa’s claim against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) regarding the alleged “genocidal” acts committed by Israel in Gaza. The United States Department of State spokesperson, Matthew Miller, stated that they do not see any actions that constitute genocide.
However, Miller added that military operations put Palestinian people at risk. The White House National Security Council spokesperson, John Kirby, also called the case “meritless, counterproductive and completely without any basis whatsoever”.
Israel has rejected the allegations, calling them “baseless” and “blood libel”. South Africa is supporting Palestinians in the ongoing conflict, while the US has been supporting Israel with military assistance and weapons.
