Former Harvard Law School professor Alan Dershowitz has announced his departure from the Democratic Party, citing his disillusionment with the party’s stance on Israel as his primary reason.
Dershowitz, a long-time liberal Democrat, described last month’s Democratic National Convention as “the worst convention in American history” due to its inclusion of speakers he views as anti-Israel.

In an interview with radio host Zev Brenner on August 23, Dershowitz criticised the convention for featuring prominent figures such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Senator Elizabeth Warren, and Senator Bernie Sanders, whom he accused of being “anti-Jewish” and “anti-Zionist.”

He claimed that the Democratic Party’s decision to give these individuals a platform effectively legitimized their anti-Israel views.
Dershowitz expressed his profound dissatisfaction, stating, “I was disgusted at the Democratic National Convention. Absolutely disgusted.” He announced that he is now an independent voter and has not yet decided how he will vote in the upcoming election.

Dershowitz, who has faced criticism from the left for his defence of former President Donald Trump during his first impeachment trial, revealed that his shift away from the Democratic Party had been gradual. However, he stated that the convention was a decisive factor in his decision to leave.
