Jordan Shaw, 19, handed himself in to the police as a result of a media appeal for information.
A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to 16 months in a young offenders’ institution for his role in a violent disturbance in Hull city centre on August 3.

Jordan Shaw, of Ilthorpe, Orchard Park, admitted charges of violent disorder and assaulting a police officer as an emergency worker.

During 12 hours of unrest that saw similar incidents across the country, Shaw threw a glass bottle at a police line on Ferensway, causing it to smash and sending shards of glass towards officers. Although the shards hit a police constable, no injury was reported due to the officer’s protective gear and riot shield, as reported by Hulldailymail.

Prosecutor Jeremy Evans detailed how Shaw was involved in the turmoil near the Royal Hotel, the cenotaph, and a mosque in Spring Bank. Shaw was also present during a separate incident where a BMW containing three Eastern European men was attacked and surrounded. Though he did not directly participate in the violence, Shaw was seen watching the events unfold.

Shaw had previous convictions dating back to 2019, including possessing a blade, arson, and assaulting emergency workers. Despite his criminal history, Shaw expressed remorse for his actions and has shown a desire to pursue further education and a career in plumbing.

He handed himself in to police following a media appeal for information and was sentenced to 16 months in custody.
