Michigan Newlyweds Charged with Murdering Groomsman on Wedding Day After Argument

A Michigan couple’s wedding celebration took a tragic turn when they were charged with the death of their groomsman.

James Douglas Shirah, 22, and his bride, Savanah Nicole Collier, 21, are facing legal consequences following the fatal incident that occurred on August 30 at a pizzeria in Flint.

According to police and prosecutors, the fatal confrontation began after the wedding festivities, during which an argument escalated into violence. Terry Lewis Taylor, 29, the groomsman, was struck by a large SUV driven by Shirah at a high rate of speed. Taylor sustained severe injuries from the crash and later died in the hospital.

Shirah and Collier fled the scene but were soon apprehended by authorities. Shirah has been charged with second-degree murder, while Collier faces a charge of accessory to a felony. Collier was photographed in an orange jumpsuit for her mug shot, while Shirah remains held in jail without bond. Collier posted $1,000 of her $4,000 bond on Wednesday.

David Leyton, the county prosecutor, remarked, “I’ve never seen anything quite like this. I’ve seen people running over others, but not so soon after a wedding.”

Taylor, a father of three and expecting a fourth child with fiancée Nikki Robinson, was remembered in a heartfelt GoFundMe campaign. Robinson described him as an “amazing person” loved by many and expressed the deep impact of his loss on their lives.

Taylor’s obituary highlights his passions, including fishing, riding bikes and four-wheelers, and his love for music, family, friends, and his dog Kodiak.
