Prince Harry ‘Missed Chance’ to Reconcile with Prince William, Expert Says
The rift between Prince Harry and Prince William appears to widen following their separate appearances at a recent memorial service.
According to reports from the BBC, the brothers attended the service for Lord Robert Fellowes, Princess Diana’s brother-in-law, on August 30 but deliberately avoided any interaction.
“The brothers were positioned at the back of the church, keeping their distance from each other,” royal expert Hilary Fordwich told Fox News Digital. “They neither spoke to each other nor were seen making eye contact.”
Kinsey Schofield, host of the “To Di For Daily” podcast, explained, “Prince William and Harry are currently not on speaking terms, and everything was carefully choreographed to prevent interaction between them. There was nothing joint about this appearance. It was a matter of two family members showing their respect individually.”
Christopher Andersen, author of “The King,” described the situation as evidence that the ongoing conflict between the brothers persists. “This is proof positive that the war of the Windsor brothers continues,” he said. “There’s still plenty of bad blood between them.”
The estrangement dates back to Harry and Meghan Markle’s departure from royal duties in 2020, which they attributed to the intrusive and racist behaviour of the British media. The situation was exacerbated by the release of Harry’s autobiography, “Spare,” which detailed intimate and controversial aspects of the royal family.
In the book, Harry alleged that during a 2019 argument, William called Meghan “difficult” and “rude” and subsequently assaulted him.
Harry claimed he was left with cuts and bruises after being pushed onto a dog bowl. Harry also revealed that King Charles had urged the brothers to reconcile, hoping they would not cause him additional distress during his later years.
Schofield commented, “Prince Harry has damaged his relationship with his brother irreparably. The release of ‘Spare’ included unnecessary and cruel remarks, such as comments about William’s appearance and comparisons to their late mother. These were born from envy and bitterness.”
With the paperback edition of “Spare” scheduled for release in October, Schofield suggested Harry missed an opportunity to offer a sincere apology for the hurt caused by his book.
Earlier this summer, Harry declined to attend the wedding of Hugh Grosvenor, Duke of Westminster, avoiding a potentially awkward encounter with William, who was also invited.
“Harry’s presence would have turned the wedding into a media spectacle,” Anderson noted. “If Harry had accepted the invitation, William would likely have chosen not to attend. Harry was aware of this.”
The brothers’ strained relationship was also evident during King Charles’ coronation in May, where they sat separately and did not acknowledge each other. Despite visiting the UK in February to see Charles following his cancer diagnosis, Harry was not permitted to stay at any royal residences.
