Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance warned voters sternly, urging them not to “buy” into Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris’s policy positions.
During her first major interview since launching her 2024 campaign, Harris has been accused of “flip-flopping” on key issues—a charge Vance echoed during an appearance on Fox & Friends.
Vance criticised Harris’ performance in the CNN interview, accusing her of adopting a more moderate stance to attract votes ahead of the November election. “I think it’s important for us not to buy this,” Vance stated on Friday.
“If you look at how Kamala Harris has governed, she’s actually governed as a far-left person. She’s just trying to pretend that she’s not far left now because she wants to win the American people’s votes over the next couple of months.”
Vance expressed concerns that a Harris administration would lead to a higher cost of living, open borders, and a more dangerous world.
He also questioned Harris’ consistency, accusing her of changing her stance on various issues.
“It’s absurd for Kamala Harris to sit there and say, ‘Well, I don’t believe in any of the things that I told you I believed three years ago,'” Vance argued. He criticized the media for not challenging Harris on these shifts, claiming that the press has primarily avoided holding her accountable.
The CNN interview, conducted by Dana Bash and aired on Thursday, marked Harris’ first sit-down interview in 39 days.
During the interview, Harris insisted that her “values have not changed” despite widespread criticism. However, Vance remained sceptical, suggesting that Harris’ lack of clear convictions made her seem unsure of her own positions.
“It’s clear that she doesn’t have firm convictions,” Vance said, adding that while he is running against her, he felt “a little bad” for her during the interview. He accused Harris of being “coached to pretend to be a moderate” while governing as a “San Francisco liberal.”
Vance concluded by emphasizing the need for a change in leadership, stating, “We’ve got to take this country in a new direction, which is why we’ve got to elect Donald Trump.”
