Nigerian National Arrested for Drug Smuggling After Cocaine Capsules Discovered at Pakistan Airport
A Nigerian national has been charged with drug smuggling after the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) uncovered concealed cocaine capsules during an operation at Lahore International Airport.
The suspect, who arrived in Pakistan from Nigeria via Dubai, was found to have 38 capsules filled with cocaine hidden in his stomach, according to The Express Tribune. The total weight of the recovered cocaine was 608 grams.
This arrest highlights a troubling increase in transnational drug smuggling, with foreign nationals, particularly Nigerians, being prominently involved.
In 2023 alone, ten Nigerian nationals have been apprehended in similar cases, with a total of 4.811 kilograms of contraband seized.
This year, law enforcement agencies have conducted seven major operations, resulting in the arrest of eight Nigerians and the seizure of 11.420 kilograms of illicit drugs.
This trend underscores the need for enhanced international cooperation to combat drug trafficking effectively.
